Everything you need to set up, customize, and master HA HUB on your Android tablet. From the initial OAuth2 handshake to 3D floorplan placement and deep settings customization.

info 1. Overview & Native Architecture

HA HUB was engineered from the ground up as a 100% native Android application built specifically for dedicated tablet dashboards. Unlike traditional dashboards that wrap complex web browsers and struggle with memory bloat, HA HUB utilizes Android’s high-performance native canvas and hardware-accelerated UI rendering.

Native code runs directly on the tablet without intermediaries. This results in instant touch responsiveness, fluid 60 FPS animations, and up to 75% lower RAM usage.

Introduction to HA HUB capabilities. Tap "Next" to begin server connection.

Enter your Home Assistant server address.

OAuth2 Login Handshake

A secure in-app login window loads directly from your Home Assistant server. Enter your username and password or 2FA code and tap "Authorize".

link 2. Server Address & Connection Configuration

HA HUB connects directly to your Home Assistant server over your local network. You can use any of the following address formats:

Easiest to configure. Works automatically if your local Wi-Fi router supports mDNS resolution.

Most stable option for wall tablets. Recommended to set a DHCP IP reservation on your router for your Home Assistant server.

Allows connection even if the tablet is on an isolated network or 5G.

warning

Always include http:// or https:// and port :8123

Make sure to type the full protocol and port. If you type 192.168.1.100:8123, HA HUB will automatically prepend http:// for you.

verified_user Local OAuth2 Authentication

HA HUB implements Home Assistant's official OAuth2 authorization protocol (RFC 6749). When logging in:

Your password is processed exclusively by your Home Assistant server. HA HUB never sees, stores, or logs your plain-text password.
Upon successful login, Home Assistant issues encrypted access tokens.
These tokens are saved strictly on the local device with secure and private storage.
You can revoke the token at any time in Home Assistant under Profile → Security → Refresh Tokens.

sync_alt Changing Server Address or Re-Authenticating

If you change your server IP, or want to connect with another user:

Swipe from top to bottom to open the Top Screen and tap the Settings button (gear icon).
In the General category, tap Home Assistant Connection.
Enter the new server address and tap Connect to launch the authorization screen.

home 3. Center Screen: Dashboard

The Center Screen serves as the ambient standby hub of your smart home. It includes:

Digital Clock and Date: Always visible with dynamic ambient typography.
Real-Time Temperature: Pulls live data from your configured Home Assistant temperature sensor.
Active Media Status: Shows current playing track. Tapping opens the full multimedia screen.
Quick Access Drawer: Swipe gently from right to left on the right edge of the screen to control your favorite switches.
System Warning Icons: Shows subtle indicators if Wi-Fi drops or tablet is unplugged from AC power.

apps Top Screen: Apps & Quick Shortcuts

Gesture: Swipe from Top to Bottom on the Center Screen.

Provides quick hardware toggles and your app launcher:

Quick Hardware Toggles: Direct access to Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth settings, Screen Brightness, and Hub Settings.
Night Mode Selector: Switch between Automatic (schedule-based), Always On, or Always Off.
App Launcher Grid: List of applications (such as Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Cameras, etc.). Allows displaying all apps on your tablet or only favorites.
Guest Wi-Fi App: Launched directly from the apps grid, allows displaying a QR Code of your Wi-Fi network for visitors.

map Left Screen: Interactive 3D Floorplan

Gesture: Swipe from Left to Right on the Center Screen.

Displays your home's 2D or 3D architectural blueprint with interactive device pins placed across rooms:

Supported Device Types: Switches, Lights, Input Booleans, Scenes, Automations, and Sensors.
Direct Touch Control: Tap any light or switch pin to toggle states instantly with tactile feedback animation.
Device Status: Icons change color and state according to their status in Home Assistant.

Gesture: Swipe from Right to Left on the Center Screen.

Complete device command center organized into custom groups (e.g. Scenes, Lights, or Living Room, Kitchen, Bedrooms, Outdoor) according to your needs:

Supported Device Types: Switches, Lights, Input Booleans, Automations, Scenes, and Scripts.
Card Grid Layout: Quick view and control of on/off device states.
Flexible Organization: Easily create, rename, or reorder groups and devices in Settings.

language Bottom Screen: Full Home Assistant Interface

Gesture: Swipe from Bottom to Top on the Center Screen.

Opens the native Home Assistant interface with automatic OAuth2 authentication:

Full Access: Advanced device control, HACS integrations, Add-ons, Settings, and Developer Tools accessible anytime without leaving the app.
Floating Close Button: Tap the floating close card to return smoothly to HA HUB.

tune 4. Settings Manual: General

Option	Description
Home Assistant Connection	Change server URL or re-authenticate with a new Home Assistant user account.
Inactivity Timeout	Time of inactivity before the tablet automatically returns to the Center Screen. Options: 15s, 30s, 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 10 min, or Never.
Wi-Fi Disconnected Warning	Displays a disconnected Wi-Fi icon on the home screen when the tablet loses network connection.
Power Disconnected Warning	Displays an unplugged icon when the tablet is running on battery instead of wall power.

In Settings -> Device Configuration -> Manage Devices, create groups tailored to your needs (e.g. Living Room, Bedroom, Outdoor, or functional groups like Lighting, Scenes, Climate).

Select a floor plan image from your gallery and drag device pins to position them spatially over the rooms.

Designing & Exporting Your 3D Floorplan

You can use any 3D architecture software or online floorplan tool to render your house image:

Sweet Home 3D (Free / Open Source)

Excellent free desktop tool. Draw your walls, add 3D furniture, set up lighting, and export a high-resolution 3D photo render.

Planner 5D / HomeByMe (Web)

Simple browser-based floorplan creators. Great for quickly assembling rooms and generating clean perspective renders.

Blender (Advanced)

For ultra-realistic renders with realistic lighting, shadows, and glass materials.

- Format: PNG or JPG. - Resolution: 1920x1200 (16:10) or 2560x1600 (16:10), 1920x1080 (16:9) or 2560x1440 (16:9) for crisp clarity, matching your tablet's screen aspect ratio.

Floorplan Editor Buttons

Select Image Button

Opens your tablet's local storage and gallery to select your exported 3D or 2D floorplan render.

Add Device Button

Opens the entity selector showing all connected Home Assistant devices with instant search and filtering (switches, lights, booleans, scenes, automations, sensors).

save

Save Button

Permanently saves the image and the relative X/Y coordinate matrix of all pins.

arrow_back

Back Button

Returns to the previous screen without saving changes.

Floorplan Pin Customization

Precision Dragging

When touching and dragging a pin in the editor: 1- The pin scales up with an orange highlight and haptic response; 2- Button toolbars smoothly disappear to give a 100% unobstructed view; 3- Drag the pin to the exact spot in the room you desire.

Long Press Menu (Pin Options)

A long press on any pin opens a menu with: 1- Change Icon: Opens the selector with dozens of icons (bulbs, plugs, climate, TV, lock, etc.); 2- Delete Pin: Removes the pin from the floorplan.

The Quick Access Drawer provides instant control of your most-used switches without switching screens or opening menus:

On the Center Dashboard, swipe gently from the right edge to the left to reveal the floating quick switches drawer.

Favorites Configuration

In Settings -> Device Configuration -> Manage Quick Access, add your essential switches (e.g. kitchen spots, garage gate, cinema mode, air conditioning).

Drag items to order by frequency of use and assign personalized icons for quick visual recognition.

Tap any button to toggle states instantly with tactile feedback and live synchronization to Home Assistant.

device_thermostat Device Configuration: Temperature Sensor

Option	Description
Temperature Sensor	Select which `sensor.*` from Home Assistant will display its live temperature value next to the main clock.

music_note Media Configuration & Full Player

HA HUB includes a dedicated high-fidelity media player screen designed specifically for wall-mounted tablets:

Option	Description
Media Player Device	Select the `media_player.*` entity to be monitored by HA HUB. When playback starts, it will be displayed on the home screen, allowing access to the media control screen by tapping on it.
Open Automatically	When enabled, HA HUB automatically opens the full-screen media player whenever your chosen device starts playing music.

Manual & Automatic Open

Access at any time by tapping the track title on the Center Screen (only during playback). If preferred, enable 'Open Automatically' in settings to launch full screen whenever playback starts.

swipe

Album Art Swipe Gestures

Swipe left across the album cover to skip to the Next track, or swipe right to go to the Previous track.

linear_scale

Timeline

Displays elapsed time and total track duration. Drag the seek slider to advance or rewind to your desired position.

volume_up

Playback & Volume Controls

Dedicated buttons for Play/Pause, Next/Previous Track, and Volume Control.

blur_on

Dynamic Blurred Background

The screen background automatically applies a subtle blur of the album artwork with transition on each track change.

grid_view Settings Manual: App Configuration

Option	Description
Show All Apps	When enabled, all installed Android applications on the tablet appear in the Top Screen launcher.
Select Favorite Apps	When "Show All Apps" is disabled, choose specific apps (e.g. Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Home Security) to display.

wifi_password Settings Manual: Built-in Guest Wi-Fi

HA HUB features a built-in Guest Wi-Fi app that generates an on-screen QR Code. Guests simply point their smartphone camera at the tablet to connect instantly to your guest network without typing passwords.

Enable Guest Wi-Fi App	Enables or disables the Guest Wi-Fi card in your app launcher.
Network Name (SSID)	The name of the visitor Wi-Fi network (SSID).
Password	The security password of the network.

Compatible with any iOS or Android smartphone camera.
100% offline and secure QR Code generation on the tablet hardware, with no external internet dependency.

dark_mode Settings Manual: Night Mode

Night Mode dims the screen and displays only the clock and date during nighttime hours:

Option	Description
Night Mode Start Time	Time of day when Night Mode automatically activates.
Night Mode End Time	Time of day when Night Mode automatically deactivates, returning to normal ambient mode.

wifi_off 5. Connection & Authentication Troubleshooting

report_problem

"Unable to connect to Home Assistant" or "Server Offline"

- Verify that your tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Home Assistant.
- Check if the IP address has changed on your router.
- If using http://homeassistant.local:8123, try switching to direct IP http://192.168.x.x:8123.

help

"Invalid address or port"

Make sure you didn't leave spaces in the URL and included the port :8123 if using standard Home Assistant port.
